Home/AI close

The close, prepared. You approve it.

An AI agent works your fund's quarter-end checklist on the general ledger: it gathers the evidence, prepares accruals and carry, explains every material variance, and tells you what's blocked. Nothing posts or completes until someone at your firm approves it.

What the agent does

The preparation, done before you sit down.

It reads the same ledger your statements, LP portal and auditor read, so its evidence is the books, not a copy of them.

01

Works the checklist in order

Marks, accruals, payables, intercompany, manual entries, trial balance and variances, each in dependency order, with the evidence for each item gathered from the ledger.

02

Prepares what's missing

Recurring period-end accruals and the quarterly carry accrual are prepared as proposed entries, with the amounts and accounts in front of the approver.

03

Explains every material variance

For each account that moved past your materiality, it writes what happened and cites the journal entries that caused it. Your auditor gets the same review on their request list.

04

Says what's blocking you

An unapproved mark, a draft journal entry, a failing tie-out: blocked items come back with who needs to do what, and the assignee hears about it.

Controls

Built for books an auditor will read.

The agent does the legwork. Your controllers keep the sign-off, and every approval leaves a record.

Proposals, never postings

The agent can't write to the ledger or complete a checklist item. Everything it prepares waits for an org admin at your firm to approve it.

Re-checked at approval

When you approve, the evidence and dependencies are checked again against the live books. If something moved, the approval stops and says why.

Reversed if it makes things worse

Approved ledger fixes are posted, then the tie-outs re-run. An entry that breaks a passing check is reversed on the spot.

Sense checks on the big numbers

Carry isn't prepared when the carry engine's NAV disagrees with the general ledger. It flags the inputs to fix instead.

A full trail

Who approved what, when, and on what evidence, stays on the checklist item, the journal entry and the audit log.

People keep the judgment calls

Bank reconciliation, subsequent events and the auditor's sign-off stay with your team. The agent hands over what it found.

How a close runs

One queue to review. One click to approve.

  1. 01

    Soft-close the period

Your team soft-closes the quarter. The close checklist is created, and the agent can start.

  2. 02

    The agent prepares

Evidence for every item, proposed entries and sign-offs, a variance review, and a list of what's blocked and who needs to act.

  3. 03

    You approve and lock

Review everything in one queue, approve in bulk in the right order, finish the items only people can, then lock the period.

Questions

Does the agent post to our general ledger?
No. It proposes entries and sign-offs. An org admin at your firm approves each one (individually or in bulk), and only then is it posted, in that person's name.
What happens if the books change after the agent prepared something?
Approval re-checks the evidence against the live ledger. If an amount moved or a dependency isn't done, the approval stops with the reason, and the agent's next run prepares an updated version.
Can it close a period on its own?
No. Locking a period still requires every checklist item to be complete, and items like bank reconciliation and the auditor's sign-off are completed by people.
What does our auditor see?
Approved variance reviews are added to the audit engagement's request list, with each material movement, its explanation and the entries behind it.
Which model does it use?
Claude, from Anthropic. It works through the same permission-checked tools as the rest of Privatis, inside your information walls.

We'll walk through a close on a fund like yours: the evidence, the proposed entries, the variance review and the approval queue.
